We understand that learning to drive can feel overwhelming. That’s why we created this platform – to make
the process as simple and stress-free as possible..
Before driving in Gibraltar you require a license for the type of vehicle you plan to drive - with the two more common licenses being A for motorbikes and B for cars.
Bike driving licenses
There are different driving licenses for bikes depending on the size of its engine:
A1: Bikes up to 125cc
A2: Bikes up to 500cc (well, technically it is a bike limited to a power of 35kw - so let's say around 500cc)
A: Any bike size, however you need to have had an A2 license for at least two years (or be over 24 years old)
You can find the bike size and power in the logbook.
Car driving licenses
It is a lot easier when it comes to car driving licenses: there is only one type of license, the B license.
A B license allows you to drive any four wheel vehicle up to 3,500 kg (so you can drive a normal car, a van or even a small truck!).
Automatic or manual?
Learning to drive an automatic car or bike is much easier, as you do not need to worry about changing gears - you just need to worry about accelerating and braking. However if you pass the practical license exam with an automatic vehicle your license will only allow you to drive automatic vehicles.
